A letter to Myself
A sonnet
Oct 9, 2020
Why must you freely give away your heart?
Don’t you realize this only invites pain?
Lovers love and leave and break you apart
simply more sensible to stay away
Don’t you dare fall for those beautiful eyes
don’t let that smile steal your still sound soul
luscious lips lead up to lingering lies
I thought by now you’d learn to let it go.
Perpetual perfection can’t exist
in a world full of inconsistency
dedication and devotion are myths
for love comes only conditionally.
Solidarity brings serenity
intimacy is irrationality.
