Where Is The Love?

A sonnet

Chaos created by the sound of shots,

make empty the halls once busy with noise

block off each doorway and turn the lights off

children cry trying to muffle the noise.

sirens scream as they scramble down the street

as armies of officers rush inside

parents panic and watch in disbelief

praying that their babies are still alive

A single kid rolls out, shot in his chest

the suspect in handcuffs, held his head low

years of torment, what else did they expect?

He took care of his bully on his own.

No interventions- till something like this,

Why do we continue to fail our kids?

Another school shooting happened today, this time it was close to home. It’s heartbreaking to watch kids get picked on over and over and over again and nothing be done about it. What if we as a society showed our children how to love others, how to be kind and generous, how to be a light for others? What if schools stepped in when reports were made of bullying that goes on so frequently? What if kids stood up for each other, lended a helping hand- instead of pulling out their phones to record anything they can that might help them out in the social media world?
