Suffocating

A free verse poem

Our universes intersected

for but a moment in time-

sparks ignited, forming a fire

that rose rampant

into frenzied flames.

There I sat in cinders

from a blazing love,

the ashes of your goodbye

clinging tightly to the tears

that fell from my face.

I rummaged through the rubble

praying to find an ember

that could reignite our flame-

but there was nothing

around left to burn.

As I climbed from the clouds

and devastation surrounding me,

it became clear how the

smoke from your love

has all but suffocated me.

All I want now is to breathe again.
