Sobriety is a Journey

Sobriety is a journey

not a destination.

It’s voyaging toward

the illuminating lighthouse

that safely leads you home.

Waves will rock an unstable ship

tides threaten to overthrow.

Salty sea will sting dark eyes,

choking back conflicted tears,

a frantic foray

to a far out place-

but that safe haven

is not what saves.

There is no smooth sailing

across these troubled waters,

decisions must be made.

Keep your faith.

This passage is crucial to life,

this journey to the light,

too many give into merciless seas

and don’t recover.
