A Friendship Simply Won’t Suffice

A sonnet

(Photo by Eric Ward on Unsplash)

You and I dissemble and disconnect,

painfully we pretend that things are fine

but my heart aches for you, I must confess-

earthquakes of emotion are hard to hide.

I can hardly conceal my crushed spirit,

forcibly I fight my feelings for you.

Desperate attempts to hide my intentions

it’s evident to your love I’m subdued.

I can’t stand to stay here in the unknown

do you care my bleeding heart beats for you?

I beg of you not to give me false hope

I need to know if you still want me too.

Love like ours comes only once in this life

for me your friendship shall hardly suffice.
