Dissociation

A sonnet

(Photo by Boram Kim on Unsplash)

Dissociation is a dreaded dream-

it’s like watching the world through a window,

it causes me to question everything

I struggle to regain sense of control.

Emotions evade my disengaged mind

immense indifference debilitates me,

carelessly casting all caution aside

wandering alone has left me weary.

Mustered personas perfectly perform

but disconnect makes it hard to engage

feigning smiles, in attempts to conform

scantily, I survive another day.

Dissociation is a dreaded dream

I really wish it would just leave me be.
