A Calculated Conga
A sonnet

We are scheduled to start at seven sharp,
although we rarely cut skin before eight.
Each one of us plays an important part
in an attempt to help our patient’s fate.
We dissect out delicate mammary
to later be used to bring back blood flow,
the surgeon sews it to the LAD,
“widow maker”, as it’s commonly known.
Once we’ve bypassed the plaque that’s caused such grief
and oxygen’s open to the muscle,
we close the chest in hopes it’ll relieve
the ache that brought our patient such trouble.
For what ails many men can sometimes be
only fixed by bypassing arteries.
