A Beautiful Harvest

A sonnet

( Photo by Piron Guillaume on Unsplash)

Tis not the first time, nor be it the last-

a still heart fumbles to begin again.

Although I’ve seen it before, still I gasp;

it’s curious that death is not the end.

What strength it takes to supply two lives,

the number of beats- limitless it seems!

A young mind dead yet this muscle survives

and so now it moves on to bigger dreams…

There lies a list upon which names are placed,

the sickest souls in search for some hope.

Slinking in the shadows, their families pray

that one day soon their loved one will come home.

What an honor I imagine it be-

to save a life with the organs I leave.
